Professional Development for Students Serving in Schools
Posted by PHENND on January 30, 2017
The event announcement below is primarily for our GEAR UP Coaches but we realized that the agenda isn’t specific to GEAR UP and could be of immense value to other college students serving in public schools — particularly those working in middle or high schools and/or on college access. Thus, for a small fee to cover lunch, we’re opening it to non-GEAR UP students. The full agenda is below.
—
Join us for training and professional development for new and returning GEAR UP Coaches from Bryn Mawr College, Drexel University, La Salle University, Saint Joseph’s University, Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.
The GEAR UP Project serves 53 middle/high schools in the School District of Philadelphia and works to build the capacity of schools to address the needs of students for college and career readiness preparation. GEAR UP Coaches are undergraduate and graduate students from local Philadelphia universities who provide vital academic assistance and motivation to support the post-secondary success of GEAR UP students.
Breakfast snacks and lunch will be provided!
This mandatory training will provide GEAR UP Coaches with the tools they need to best support Philadelphia middle and high school students on their path towards graduation and college. We are excited to feature keynote speaker, Otis Hackney, Chief Education Officer of the City of Philadelphia, to share his thoughts on the state of education in the city and the impact that college student volunteers can have on improving educational opportunities for Philadelphia’s youth.
