United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, in collaboration with Dechert LLP, Is now offering regional nonprofits an opportunity to apply for free pro bono legal representation.

The program was started in 2007 to offer nonprofits with transactional and contract projects legal services from Dechert LLP.

With more than 1,000 lawyers in 18 offices throughout the United States, Europe and Asia, Dechert is an international law firm with a significant business practice.

This opportunity to receive legal support form Dechert is limited to specific projects that the nonprofit organizations must identify in its application.  Dechert does not offer nonprofits general all-purpose representation or any representation involving litigation disputes.  Dechert attorneys and the selected agency would enter into a confidential lawyer/client relationship not involving UWSEPA.

Transactional/contractual work may include but is not limited to:
— Formation of legal entities (including charter and bylaws), assistance with qualifications to do business and other state filings
— Assistance with acquisitions or dispositions of material assets or any type of business combination transaction
— Drafting, reviewing, revising and negotiating  contractual relationships, including service contracts, purchase or supply contracts, real estate leases, and loan or financing documents.
— Intellectual Property, Labor and Tax Exemption advice.

This pro bono program is open to non-profit organizations serving the Southeastern Pennsylvania region.  To qualify, your agency must not already regularly retain outside legal counsel.  To apply, agencies need to complete and return an application form to United Way of Southeastern PA by fax (215-665-2531), scanned attachment via email (ahammond@uwsepa.org) or postal mail to the contact information below.

If you have any additional questions contact Antoinette Hammond at 215-665-2570 or by email at ahammond@uwsepa.org.   If the representation request involves a confidential matter please omit any confidential information in your reply but instead request contact information to submit the application directly to Dechert in confidence.
