Preview of White House Hunger Conference
Posted by Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity on September 27, 2022
In this Spotlight exclusive, U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) shares insight into the September 28 White House conference on hunger and nutrition – the first such conference since 1969 – and his hopes for future action toward ending hunger in the United States. “We do not have a plan to end hunger,” McGovern says. “We have plans to manage it. We have programs to respond to it, but we have no plan to end it.” McGovern, chairman of the House Rules Committee and a long-time anti-hunger leader on Capitol Hill, is hopeful that the conference will identify new goals and ideas to jump-start efforts to make a transformational impact for 40 million hungry Americans. “I have high expectations,” he says.
