The President & Chief Executive Officer develops and directs a strategy to advance the organization’s vision, mission and values. In the regional, state and national arenas, position the organization at the forefront of the industry leaders. Ensure that organizational services and objectives are responsive to and in alignment with current and anticipated market forces. Direct the effective and efficient operation of participation and administrative services. Identify and initiate new business opportunities and develop strategies to attract resources to generate independent financial support. Foster an environment that sustains an engaged and effective board of directors that excels in fiduciary, development and consultative responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision for the strategic plan to guide the organization
  • Identify, assess, and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities
  • Foster effective team work between the Board and the President & CEO and between the President & CEO and staff
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization
  • Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board of Directors as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate
  • Represent the organization’s brand at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile
  • Be considered a thought leader in the industry
  • Process strong change management skills

STRATEGY & PLANNING

  • Develop and drive the strategy of the organization within the broad context of the local and national landscape, taking a leadership role in driving a collaborative process with the Board and staff that result in an annual operational plan and budget
  • Ensure resources are in place to carry out strategies and plans
  • Use performance measurement and metrics to guide strategic and operational decision-making

ADVOCACY

  • Coordinate the utilization of advocacy initiatives to remove systemic, policy and individual barriers to community inclusion for individuals in recovery and family members
  • Raise the public profile of MHP by serving as the spokesperson and advocate for the agency, as well as a visible, visionary and influential leader in the community

BOARD DEVELOPMENT

  • Cultivate a “giving and getting” Board of Directors willing to lead and contribute to the development of prospects and cultivation of major donors and partners
  • Partner with, and engage, the Board of Directors to leverage and secure resources, contribute expertise and advice on short and long term strategic goals
  • Build a diverse and inclusive Board of Directors that is representative of the community
  • Ensure open communication with the Board of Directors about the measurement of agency performance against stated objectives and metrics

STAFF LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

  • Lead, motivate and develop staff so that they are passionate about what the organization has achieved and are committed to working effectively toward continual improvement
  • Ensure the organization has high caliber staff with skills appropriate to meet the needs of the position with the ability to positively meet agency objectives
  • Ensure an effective performance management system for all employees that includes annual objective setting, coaching, feedback and evaluation achieving organizational and individual outcomes
  • Ensure a comprehensive recruitment and retention strategy to support MHP commitment to build a sustainable organization

FUND DEVELOPMENT

  • Ensure a strategic and comprehensive fund development plan that identifies prospects and donors and enhances the short and long term diversified funding base for the agency
  • Ensure establishment of a diverse donor base of individual, corporate, foundation and public segments
  • Personally, build loyal and long-term relationships with key donor segments based on mission, cultivation and stewardship, program outcomes and sound fiscal management

MARKETING & PARTNERSHIPS

  • Ensure comprehensive marketing and partnership strategies to attract and engage donors and mobilize significant numbers of donors reflecting the full diversity of the communities served by MHP
  • Establish target marketing strategies directed towards potential clients to increase awareness about MHP’s services and engagement with mental health services
  • Ensure meaningful and effective partnerships with key public and private sector entities to reinforce the MHP brand and its impact in the community
  • Develop meaningful and effective relationships with the media including press, television and radio leading to strong support

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure programmatic excellence is achieved by defining outcomes, using performance metrics, establishing operational benchmarks and making improvements to operations
  • Actively participate in nationwide initiatives, programmatic innovations, best practices and quality standards; adapt these standards to create maximum impact within the MHP environment
  • Hold MHP accountable to agency and national standards for service delivery with a priority on recovery
  • Promote the identification of continuous improvement in service delivery as the champion for innovative solutions

FINANCE & INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Protect the organization’s assets and resources by creating financial and asset management protocols and controls, evaluating outcomes, and adapting operations to ensure the organization’s financial stability
  • Ensure the development of all financial, facilities and operational plans including insurance; oversee implementation of budgets, monitor progress/changes related to budgets
  • Guide the development of the organization’s financial and technological systems to support, measure and communicate outcomes on quantitative and qualitative performance indicators
  • Attracts, retains, develops and leverages staff talent. Creates an environment where staff is engaged and performing at high levels. Institutes and utilize an effective performance management system for all employees that include annual objective setting and evaluation
  • Establish quality improvement and compliance protocols that facilitate measurement of the effectiveness and efficiency of service and administrative operations and ensure compliance with regulatory mandates and professional/ ethical standards
  • Assure the integration of information management capabilities throughout the organization, and monitor/evaluate the capabilities to ensure that the organization fulfills requirements for effectiveness, efficiency and compliance
