Power and Privilege: A Candid Look at How Identity and Culture Impact our Understanding and Actions – May 10
Posted by La Salle Nonprofit Center on February 26, 2019
In Search of Meaningful Inclusion and Shared Understanding
We cannot deny that issues of power, privilege and inclusion are powerful touchstones – engaging funders and influencing culture, workplace and ethos.
For those in search of a productive discussion that unites, rather than divides, and heightens awareness of how the politics of identity and the dynamics of power and privilege influence us daily, we offer: Power and Privilege: A Candid Look at How Identity and Culture Impact our Understanding and Actions.
Often an emotional hot button, a frank conversation on the impact of diversity, identity, race, power and privilege can be uncomfortable, and therefore intimidating and elusive. But recognizing that these issues impact us both in our work and personally, this session will help us think critically and objectively about issues relating to inequality and oppression. Together with other nonprofit colleagues, we will explore these issues to build greater self-awareness on how identity impacts the dynamics of power and privilege in all aspects of our lives.
As nonprofit professionals, we serve missions, many of which incorporate social justice, elimination of oppression and promotion of equality and human rights. That makes it essential that we delve into these issues honestly and collaboratively if we are going to fulfill our promise. This highly interactive session will enable participants to look objectively at ways we use, or experience, influence, power and privilege in our own lives and the lives of those around us, offering a day of “aha” moments that will serve us well moving forward.
Join us for this exclusive, one-time presentation on Friday, May 10, 2019, 9 am to 4 pm at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania,1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia
