Postsecondary Counselor – Job Description
HOURS: Average of 10-20 Hours per Week (Seasonal Variations)

QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree and be able to pass the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Background Check.
Additionally, candidates should possess:
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial policies and procedures
Experience in high school college counseling or college admissions
Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
Flexibility to perform night/weekend duty and travel throughout the Philadelphia region
Knowledge of and experience working with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Postsecondary Counselor will have one of two concentrations: high school or alumni. Those working with current high school students will serve as a resource for college preparation and guidance for students, families, and Snider Hockey staff members. Counselors who work with alumni of the organization to either guide them through their postsecondary education or help alumni find, prepare, and apply for opportunities in employment or education. Additionally, Counselors will work as part of a team to promote and celebrate a college bound culture across Snider Hockey programs. The Counselor plays a vital role in spreading our core values of education, responsibility, hard work, and giving back. The successful candidate will take pride in mentoring participants to become productive citizens who pursue higher education and give back to their communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Create a resource rich environment for students and families as it pertains to college information, scholarship opportunities and financial aid processes
Plan and conduct college workshops and information sessions including FAFSA workshops, campus tours, college fair visits, essay writing workshops and scholarship information sessions
Assist students with registration for the ACT and SAT, obtaining fee waivers, and organizing test preparation
Collect and monitor student data including SAT scores, college application information, FAFSA completion, scholarships applied, college acceptance and scholarships received
Individually counsel students and families to ensure college preparation and matriculation, continued success throughout postsecondary education, and career preparation
Help students select schools of interest and fit, and complete college applications
Help students identify and apply for scholarships and complete the financial aid process
Assist students and parents with interpreting and comparing financial aid packages
Be an essential member of the Snider Hockey team, which may include but is not limited to planning and supporting activities and events
