The Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP) seeks a Policy Coordinator to support our efforts to end youth incarceration in Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on ending the practice of charging youth as adults. The Policy Coordinator is a full-time, exempt, staff position that will report to YSRP’s Policy Director and will work closely with partners in the Care, Not Control (C,NC) coalition. The Policy Coordinator will also contribute to the development and implementation of YSRP’s policy agenda at the local and state level to lessen the impact of adult sentences for children.
The Policy Coordinator will be responsible for the following core duties:
- Work collaboratively with C,NC partner organizations to advance and deepen the leadership of directly impacted young people in C,NC’s policy work;
- Support the Policy Director in working collaboratively with client-partners, families, partner organizations, and the YSRP team to sharpen and deepen YSRP’s policy advocacy strategy and agenda;
- Draft policy briefs and related communication materials to advance C,NC demands and YSRP priorities;
- Organize and participate in policy briefings, roundtables, and other public events;
- Develop new and deepen existing relationships with key stakeholders to advance our coalition and organizational goals;
- Track and monitor legislative activity pursuant to 501(c)(3) lobbying compliance standards at the federal, state, and city levels.
The Policy Coordinator may be assigned additional duties at the discretion of YSRP’s Policy Director.
People directly impacted by the criminal legal system and/or incarceration – including those who have a family member who has been directly impacted – are strongly encouraged to apply. People who are from communities directly impacted by mass incarceration are strongly encouraged to apply.
About YSRP: The Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project (YSRP) works to keep children out of adult jails and prisons, and to bring home people who were sentenced as children to life in prison without the possibility of parole (Juvenile Lifers). Through policy advocacy and in coalition with partner organizations, YSRP also works to raise awareness of the issues that face young people in the adult criminal legal system, and to reform the system. For more information about YSRP’s mission, values and work, please visit our website.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. We will begin reviewing applications on August 29th, 2022.
