Play at Home, Pre-Recorded On-Demand Videos for Kids: Games, Recess & More
Posted by Playworks on April 14, 2020
Playworks (https://www.playworks.org/get-involved/play-at-home/) is developing short videos geared towards children that can be viewed online or included within schools’ e-Learning platforms. These videos feature a coach or staff member leading kids in a game that most fit the CDC guidelines around social distancing and reducing physical contact, and can be played at home with little to no equipment. These videos will help teachers and families keep kids active and engaged while they are at home and will allow everyone to benefit from play breaks throughout the day. We will create additional video pieces that will include Minute Movers and Brain Breaks to provide parents and caretakers recommendations on how to help kids release energy and get back to focusing on schoolwork.
Live Recess on Facebook Live: https://www.facebook.com/MakeRecessCount/
Playworks Coaches will also be leading live recess on Facebook, 3 times per day. Kids and their families can jump online and burn some energy with Playworks, or schools that are implementing virtual learning can continue to offer recess as an important part of their school day. The livestreams will be recorded, so kids who miss it can access it later. All activities will use minimal or simple equipment that kids can find at home, and will adhere to CDC guidelines around social distancing and reducing physical contact. Come play with us at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm est.

Recognizing that internet access is not readily available for all communities, Playworks is also working on a printed Playbook for kids that we will share broadly for free. This Playbook will include materials that parallel the online videos and materials we are making available and with the help of school partners, we will offer this resource at sites where students are going to receive meals. They can take home a copy of the Playbook that includes instructions for games that can be played at home, with little to no equipment.
