PICTURING WOMEN IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM
A Workshop for Teachers and After-School Mentors
Are you looking for ways to engage girls and young women in getting to know themselves and their world more deeply by looking critically at how gender is constructed in visual and text-based imagery?
Are you interested in learning classroom strategies that call attention to gender as a critical analysis tool?
Are you thinking about introducing technology into your classroom and want to focus on gender?
This workshop is for you!
September 24, 9:00 AM – 1 PM
Mastery Charter High School
35 S. 4th Street
Philadelphia, PA
Gender issues pervaded the media and education discussion forums this past year. This workshop will take on some of these issues through inquiry-based discussion and hands-on participation. The workshop will engage participants in:
* In-depth review of the Picturing Women web site as resource and discussion site
* Creating critical analysis questions revolving around gender and representation
* Reviewing materials on visual literacy and gender representation (to be distributed at the workshop)
* Forming a network of educators and community group mentors who are interested in exploring representations of women in K-16 classrooms and in after-school groups
Join us! The workshop is free of charge, though pre-registration is required. REGISTER NOW!
