Posted by on September 03, 2012

We hope you will join Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Global Citizen, the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, along with veteran serving organizations, and community leaders on September 11th at Philadelphia City Hall for the launch of Global Citizen’s Mission365: Connecting Military & Civilian Service on the Homefront.

The event, marking the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance, will take place at 2 pm in the Mayor’s Reception Room (202) and will feature the presentation of Global Citizen’s first Mission365 Active Citizenship Award by Mayor Nutter. The award will be presented to former Tuskegee Airman, Major John L. Harrison, Jr. (Air Force, retired). He will be recognized for his active citizenship in the military, for heading the Peace Corps in Swaziland, and for serving as regional director of key national service programs, including ACTION, Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) and the Foster Grandparents program.

Prior to the ceremony, local veterans’ organizations will host tables with information about their work and opportunities to support their efforts through volunteer service.

Global Citizen, which directs the annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service and year-round MLK365 volunteer program, will announce details of a new year-round partnership between military members, veterans, and their families with local organizations and community volunteers.
