Philadelphia’s Civic Summit on Recycling
Thursday, March 2nd 7:30 to 9:30 pm
Friends Select School
17th Street & Ben Franklin Parkway
As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News, Philadelphia Weekly, City Paper and Fox News: a City-sponsored curbside recycling pilot run by Recycle Bank in Chestnut Hill and West Oak Lane rewards residents with up to $400 a year in shopping coupons for recycling. Coupons can be redeemed at over 100 businesses. It’s a win-win for residents, businesses and our environment.
This pilot is an absolute success. Recycling participation has increased from 5% to more than 80%. Despite its success the City of Philadelphia almost scrapped the program. Fortunately, pressure from community and business leaders compelled the City to extend the pilot another year, expanding it to include an additional 10,000 households. There are still more than 500,000 households to go.
