Philadelphia seeks Youth Poet Laureate

Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) has released the application materials for the selection of Philadelphia’s next Youth Poet Laureate. A position complimenting the city’s Poet Laureate, the Youth Poet Laureate is to be selected from among youth attending high school who reside within the city of Philadelphia. The individual chosen for this position will be given the opportunity to develop his or her talents in poetry and will help to promote poetry throughout the city. The application process is being administered by the OACCE. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online to the OACCE by April 10th, 2015.The attached guidelines explain the position more fully.
The application process is open to any youth residing in Philadelphia and attending high school at the time of application. Applicants must be enrolled in high school for the duration of their term. The Youth Poet Laureate will serve a term from June 2015 through May 2016. They will have the opportunity to work with Philadelphia’s newly named Poet Laureate Frank Sherlock, and will be invited to make a number of appearances in their official capacity during their one-year term.
