Philadelphia Scholars Program, Philadelphia Education Fund
Posted by Philadelphia Education Fund on August 26, 2025
The Philadelphia Education Fund (PEF) Philadelphia Scholars Program helps Philadelphia students, many of whom are first-generation college-goers, get to and through college. Scholars are awarded scholarships based on demonstrated need and are supported further through our college persistence program.
In early August 2025, over 50 of PEF’s Philadelphia Scholars, who are heading to college for their first semesters, gathered at PEF’s offices on a Saturday morning for our “First Year Experience” event. The goal is to get granular with the students on what to expect during their first year, so they are setup for success as they embark on this exciting – and possibly daunting – next chapter in life!
Through informative presentations and extensive Q&A, PEF staff engaged with students on important topics such as making the academic transition to college, dealing with roommates, communicating with professors and administrative staff, self-care, and the requirements of their Last Dollar Scholarships.
Rounding out the morning, recent PEF Scholars alumni were present to answer any remaining questions and offer words of encouragement, having been in their shoes just four years ago!
