New web resource offers ex-offender resources

The Pennsylvania Prison Society and the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania have announced a new website, the Philadelphia Network of Care for Prisoner Re-Entry, to assist in better managing ex-offenders with behavioral-health issues as they return to society.

“This dynamic resource brings together all of the elements we have to guide those with behavioral-health issues as they return to society,” said Dr. Arthur C. Evans Jr., Commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.

“The new Prisoner Reentry Network provides needed information to returning citizens, their families, service providers and government agencies,” added Ann Schwartzman, director of the Pennsylvania Prison Society. “It is an easy-to-use, web-based tool for accessing reentry resources and research. It is effective because it was developed as a collaborative effort, with ongoing input from reentry stakeholders.

With a comprehensive service directory fully integrated into an online referral program, users can, in seconds, find the right service in the right location. This system also enables referral agencies to notify the court as individuals begin or complete programs. Additionally, all referral information and more can be stored easily in a Personal Health Record, which can be used for enhanced care management when more than one agency or care worker is involved.
