Philadelphia High School Mock Trial Competition
Posted by on October 28, 2013
I am excited to announce the beginning of the 2014 John S. Bradway Philadelphia High School Mock Trial Competition. The staff of Temple-LEAP is looking forward to a fun-filled season, beginning with our annual Mock Trial Training Camp, which will be held on Saturday, November 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Beasley School of Law at Temple University.
This camp represents a unique opportunity for high school students participating in Philadelphia’s mock trial competition to prepare for the upcoming season. This intensive day of training includes a “real” law school class taught by Temple’s renowned trial advocacy faculty and luminaries form the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association. In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend workshops and lectures with distinguished members of the Philadelphia legal community. After a full day of instruction in the fundamentals of trial advocacy, students will go home with a notebook of instructional materials, a t-shirt, and other gifts. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
Whether you have already formed a team for this year’s competition, or you are just considering participating, you are encouraged to send students to this special training camp. The registration form for the Mock Trial Camp accompanies this letter in a separate attachment and is available on the law school’s website on the LEAP page listed under Academics. Four students per school may be nominated to attend, and we encourage you to register early, as students are accepted on a “first come, first served” basis.
The early registration fee is $25 if received by Tuesday, October 22, 2013. After October 22, the fee is $45. This fee covers program participation for two students and one adult. If there are additional students who would like to attend, please list them on the form and they will be accommodated for $10 each if space is available. Please make checks payable to “Temple-LEAP” and send to the address printed at the bottom of this letter. In the event that financial hardship would otherwise preclude your students from participating, fee waivers are available.
The Temple-LEAP staff and all of the volunteers from the legal community are looking forward to a fun and rewarding day. I ask, therefore, that you select responsible students who will commit to attending the entire day, and that you impress upon them the value of the generous gift of time of those involved.
Please call me directly at (215) 204-8948 if you have any questions about the camp or the competition.
Sincerely,
Roberta West, Esq.
Director, Temple-LEAP
