Philadelphia Cares About Fairmount Park Day
Saturday, May 21, 2005
In Philadelphia , no one has to travel more than a mile to enjoy what the Fairmount Park System has to offer. We all have our own little place in the park that we like to think of as our own. It might be your favorite jogging path, a secluded picnic spot, or the tree where you spend your afternoons reading.
It is in honor and protection of this world-class resource that Greater Philadelphia Cares presents Philadelphia Cares About Fairmount Park Day, a morning of service dedicated to beautifying 9,200 acres that comprise Fairmount Park. *Over 40 projects* http://www.gpcares.com/fpdproj.htm are planned at locations throughout the city, from the Northeast to South Philadelphia – and everywhere in between.
Projects will include gardening, revitalizing playgrounds, planting trees, restoring trails, clearing debris, and beautifying dozens of local parks that touch every neighborhood in the city. In just a few short hours, this rain-or-shine event will prepare Fairmount Park for its busy summer season of festivals and sporting events.
As the city’s largest playground and classroom, Fairmount Park offers something for all. Whether you rollerblade on Kelly Drive or stroll along the Manayunk Canal, please come out and give back to the park that has given so much to us.
