Philabundance’s Second Annual Hunger Symposium

Posted by on August 20, 2012

Hunger is already plaguing almost 900,000 men, women, and children in our communities, and this summer they are being struck harder than ever.

The historic drought in America’s heartland is causing a sharp increase in food prices, and will continue to drive them up throughout next year, with unforeseen consequences. This is compounded by uncertainty about the subsidies and benefits such as SNAP in the Farm Bill, which may put those struggling to make ends meet in jeopardy. All this occurs at a time when food banks, one of the key resources for those who face hunger, are experiencing record-setting difficulty in sourcing enough food.

Philabundance and other hunger fighters are striking back against these challenges, but we need your help…

Join the conversation on September 13th from 7:30AM to 1:30PM at Philabundance’s Second Annual Hunger Symposium to learn about the difficulties that we face in food sourcing, and innovative strategies that are being employed – from the farm to the plate – to make sure that those in our community who need help do not go hungry. Our expert panelists and speakers will make sure that you come away with a better understanding of the issues, and ideas of how to help.

Visit http://www.philabundance.org/hungersymposium for more information and to register for tickets. We look forward to seeing you there, and to adding your support to that of other hunger fighters who are helping us make hunger history.
