Posted by on May 06, 2013
Registration is now open for People, Land and Community Education (P.L.A.C.E.) – Gettysburg, a course to assist educators in helping students make a connection to their community by linking history, science, civics, environment, conservation and stewardship through place-based learning.
This five-day course was developed through a regional partnership including the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The workshops during this course will embrace the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg while guiding participants through a curriculum called Pennsylvania Land Choices. The course will address mapping, planning, municipal government, citizenship and stewardship. It will connect history of a community at the intersection of war with current and future issues that impact the process of change. The course will also address academic standards in civics, geography, economics, science, technology, engineering, math, environment and ecology. This course is open to Pennsylvania educators and is intended for but is not limited to:
Social Studies teachers
Science teachers
Math teachers
Environmental educators
