Each year in the United States approximately five million children experience some form of traumatic experience. Traumatic experiences can have a devastating impact on the child, altering their physical, emotional, cognitive and social development. As school age providers and teachers, it is very probable that a trauma impacted child resides in your program. Participants will investigate how trauma impacts the child and gain a better understanding of how to support the child as they begin to heal. School age staff can make a difference in the life of their students by teaching them how to deal with stress and strengthen them so they can bounce back from disappointment, fear or anger. Learn how to help youth focus on individual strengths and build skills in dealing with others. Learn how to develop youth strengths and use asset-building learning activities as part of your curriculum.
