PennSERVE Planning Grants

Posted by on October 17, 2003

Please allow me to alert you to a national service grant opportunity which I hope you will consider sharing with local organizations in your community that may be interested in, and capable of, developing an AmeriCorps program.

PennSERVE: Governor Rendell’s Office of Citizen Service has issued a request for applications (RFA#2003-APG-1) for planning grants. These planning grants will support the development of future AmeriCorps programs in Pennsylvania. The grants will allow successful applicants to learn more about the principles and practices of strong and effective AmeriCorps programs. Consistent with PennSERVE’s mission, the funding is designed to help organizations strengthen Commonwealth communities by implementing innovative service programs that address a compelling community need through use of volunteers.

PennSERVE’s strategy at this time is to incubate and strengthen programs that may be considered for AmeriCorps funding in the future. While there is no guarantee of future funding, we will offer these planning grants to enable successful applicants to receive technical assistance and training, and to build an infrastructure that might enhance their ability to run a successful AmeriCorps program in the future.

To access the grant application information, it is only necessary to visit our website at the PA PowerPort address of , type in the keyword "pennserve" in the PA Keyword field and then click on "grant funds". The deadline for submission is November 17, 2003.

We hope that you will carefully consider the role that local community service organizations can play in meeting the needs of your area, and the role that PennSERVE can play in supporting those efforts. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can answer any questions or provide assistance.
