PennMOVES sets annual community sale for June 4th
The University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with Goodwill Industries, is holding its fourth annual PennMOVES community sale on Saturday, June 4th from 10am to 5pm at 3401 Grays Ferry Avenue at the northwest corner of Grays Ferry Avenue and 34th Street.
Admission to the sale is free, but bargain hunters can pay a $5 early admittance fee for entry on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 to 10am.
PennMOVES – Move Out Volunteers Engaging in Service – collects close to 90,000 pounds of items that Penn students can’t take with them when they leave campus in the summer – clothes, furniture, appliances, books, kitchen gear, toys and sporting goods and non- perishable food, etc. Rather than ending up in the landfill, these items are gathered, sorted and then offered for sale.
This year Penn is working with Goodwill Industries, one of the world’s largest nonprofit providers of employment training services for people with disabilities and other employment barriers, to provide technical expertise and logistical support. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Goodwill’s local job training programs including their newest initiative with the City of Philadelphia’s Mayor’s Office for the Reintegration Services of Ex-Offenders. Last year’s sale raised over $22,000.
The sale is open to the entire community. All sales are cash only – no credit cards or checks are accepted. All items are sold as is and there are no returns.
