Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Club Volunteers Job Description
Job Title: Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Club Peer Session Volunteer (Three (3) positions available)
Purpose: Volunteers will facilitate the peer support portion of the Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Club. This will consist of engaging about twenty highs school seniors in pre-selected financially-based activities.
History: Launched in 2004, Financial Advancement Network (FAN) Clubs are groups of five to 20 people gathered together by a Host Agency who commit to meeting together on a regular basis to improve their money management habits, get their financial situations under control and go after their financial goals. The common bond may be place of employment, school, church or temple, community organization or a social service agency.
Each FAN Club meets for six sessions, conducted by an expert in topics such as saving for tuition, paying down debts, improving credit scores or implementing a balanced budget. FAN Club members are encouraged to share with each other their progress in reaching personal financial goals.
FAN Clubs may be organized according to different levels of sophistication, subject matter, purposes and types of members. This particular FAN Club is a basic youth FAN Club. The students will learn
Location: This FAN Club will take place at Bartram High School, 2401 S. 67th St., Philadelphia, PA.
Key Responsibilities:
• Attend a two hour training on the FAN Club Program with the Financial Education Consultant.
• Prepare to engage youth weekly on the selected financial education activity.
• Maintain a sign-in sheet for each peer sessions.
• Provide a weekly update on the progress of the peer sessions.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Reports to: Angela Goode, Director, Community & Economic Development and Shante Antrom, Financial Education Consultant.
Length of Appointment and Time Commitment: The FAN Club will run from February 3, 2015-May 2, 2015. There are two FAN Clubs operating at Bartram High School. Each will begin at the differing time slots. The first group will begin at 12:45 and end at 2:15 and the second group will begin at 1:45 and end at 3:15. Volunteers should select one of the start times and interact with the youth during the educational sessions. See below for the schedule. The highlighted portions are the dates that volunteers will either facilitate the peer support sessions or engage youth in financial education activities.
Note: There are opportunities to serve as a volunteer in the Community & Economic Development department as a Financial Education Volunteer during and after the FAN Club.
Qualifications: Basic knowledge of personal finance. Pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability.
Support: Training for this position will be provided. In addition, the Director and Financial Education Consultant will be available for questions and assistance.
