Patagonia Offers Funding for Environmental Work
Deadline: August 31, 2004
Patagonia (<a href="http://patagonia.com/">http://patagonia.com/</a>), a privately held outdoor clothing and gear company, provides support for environmental work through grants to nonprofit organizations.
With most grants in the range of $3,000 to $8,000, Patagonia supports small, grassroots activist organizations. The company funds work that is action-oriented; builds public involvement and support; is strategic; focuses on root causes; accomplishes specific goals and objectives; and takes place in communities in which Patagonia does business. Applicants must submit proof of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
The company does not fund general environmental education efforts; research, unless it is in direct support of a developed plan for specific action to alleviate an environmental problem; land acquisition; endowment funds; political campaigns; and/or organizations without nonprofit status.
Organizations based in a community in which Patagonia has a retail store or an international office should submit their request to that store or office. See the Patagonia Web site for the complete grant guidelines, application procedures, and a list of the company’s domestic and international retail locations.
