Part-time Position Available for a Technology Skills Instructor
Technical skills and experience working with urban youth required.
YESPhilly is looking to hire a part -time Technology Skills Instructor to teach basic PC applications and repair/refurbishment skills. The YESPhilly program helps out-of-school youth, ages 17 to 21 get their lives on track through a combination of counseling, literacy and math classes, GED and college preparation, technology skills, job readiness training and placement, enrollment in post-secondary training, and media arts engagement activities. The technology skills instructor will work under the guidance of the Program Director to deliver a hands-on, project based technology skills curriculum to students. He/she will teach basic computer user skills to all students, as well as all aspects of the Microsoft Digital Literacy Curriculum, and work with our partners at NTR (Nonprofit Technology Resources) to teach hands-on computer-repair/refurbishment skills to students who elect to pursue technology skills training. The Technology Skills Instructor will be expected to document student progress, and to meet with case managers, academic staff, and others as necessary to support clear and consistent communication about students’ behavior, progress and goals. This instructor also may be asked to represent YESPhilly at area technology events.
This individual must have technology skills and be a self-directed educator who is able to motivate and engage students. He/she must have good verbal and written language skills, be well-organized, and have the ability to interact well with individuals of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. All YESPhilly employees are required to have child abuse, criminal background, and FBI fingerprint checks. Scheduled work hours – Monday through Thursday 9AM – 2PM. Job Qualifications:
- Proficiency with PCs, peripherals, and Microsoft and other basic office and media software applications
- Experience working with young adults in an urban setting
- Experience working with industry tools and applications
- Experience and/or strong interest implementing hands-on or project-based curriculum
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
- The ability to work as part of a team
