2016 Summer Camp Literacy Coach, Part-Time
Position Overview

Read by 4th is a citywide effort of over 80 organizations, managed and convened by the Free Library of Philadelphia, to increase the number of children reading on grade-level by the time they begin 4th grade. As part of this effort, Read by 4th has partnered with summer camps throughout the city to incorporate reading into their daily programming to prevent summer learning loss.
Read by 4th is seeking part-time Literacy Coaches to provide on-site support for participating summer camps. These individuals will work directly with summer camp site directors and line staff to help prevent summer learning and reading loss in their youth. The Literacy Coaches will work approximately 20 hours per week for a period of 6 to 8 weeks, between mid-June and mid-August. This is a part-time, seasonal position with the City of Philadelphia.

Responsibilities include:
 Attend initial training to become familiar with the literacy curriculum and best practices for supporting sites
 Assist with providing trainings for camp staff, to be held at the Free Library of Philadelphia or other sites
 Visit sites during the camp day to provide support with implementing the curriculum, which includes read alouds, independent reading, journal writing, and literacy-based games and activities
 Support a minimum of two sites per day
 Work with camp leadership to assure implementation of the literacy program
 Assist sites with data collection and evaluation, student assessment, write reports

Qualifications:
 Experience working with summer camp or after school programs
 Experience working with literacy programs strongly preferred
 Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
 Ability to work collaboratively with camp site staff and respond to their needs

Additional Requirements:
 Must be able to travel to summer camp sites in Philadelphia
 Must pass required criminal background and child abuse clearances
 Must be a resident of the City of Philadelphia
 Must have zero debt to the City (i.e. unpaid taxes, parking tickets, or other fines)

Compensation: $17.00/hour
