INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Part time editorial assistant (Summer 2004)
Philadelphia Public School Notebook – an award-winning quarterly newspaper that promotes public involvement in efforts for quality and equity in Philadelphia public schools – is looking for a part-time editorial assistant for the summer of 2004 to assist with writing articles for our print and web publications.
Position description:
The editorial assistant will work primarily with the Notebook?s staff writer in researching and writing articles to be published in the July, August, and September editions of our monthly e-bulletin, the Notebook NEWSFLASH, and also in our fall 2004 print edition, which will focus on the implementation of a standardized curriculum in Philadelphia schools. The editorial assistant will also help research in-depth investigative articles relating to public education in Philadelphia. The position entails 20 hours of work per week for a period of 5-10 weeks.
Key qualifications:
? knowledge of urban public education issues
? superior writing skills; ability to write about complex concepts for non-academic audiences in clear, accessible language
? experience doing interview research
? commitment to improve public education and to educational equity for all students
? ability to work collaboratively with staff team and editorial board
Compensation:
Summer work-study students are encouraged to apply. Otherwise, the internship is unpaid. Travel stipend to cover transportation costs is offered.
Familiarity with Philadelphia public school system desirable. Investigative journalism experience a plus.
