Hello Everyone,

Our afterschool program is in need of a part time computer instructor. We are an afterschool program with sites in Philadelphia and Camden. We have 100 elementary school age children who can use your help in learning how to use our new iBook portable computers. Hours are 2:30 to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. We are currently in need of an instructor for our Camden site. Please review the position description attached.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Computer Instructor

REPORTS TO: SITE DIRECTOR

DESCRIPTION: Under the guidance of the Site Director, the Computer Instructor provides computer instruction, assists the Site Director with the preparation of the computer instruction curriculum; plans and facilitates computer activities; sets up and secures all computer equipment; reports computer maintenance needs and repairs; provides guidance for volunteers assisting in computer activities; provides for the safety of participants and volunteers by enforcing program
rules and standards; and performs other duties related to the program as assigned. The hours are 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide age-appropriate computer instruction to elementary school age children.
2. Develop, with the Site Director, a computer instruction curriculum with activities, games, supply needs, and evaluations. Refine as needed.
3. Plans and facilitates daily computer instruction for both the Philadelphia and Camden sites.
4. Sets up and secures all computer equipment and supplies on a daily basis.
5. Reports immediately to the Site Director any and all computer maintenance needs and repairs.
6. Arrives to program 15 minutes early, and notifies Site Director 24 hours in advance of any expected absences.
7. Maintains all program materials in good working condition and keeps them at the assigned areas.
8. Reports to assigned area on time and adequately prepared.
9. Provides guidance for volunteers and staff who assist in computer activities.
10. Provides classroom management (discipline and structure) for 15 students in a manner that is consistent with the program philosophy and procedures.
11. Implements approved reward/incentive procedures.
12. Provides for the safety of participants and volunteers by enforcing program rules and standards.
13. Performs other duties related to the program as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum age: 21

Required: Dependability, flexibility, patience, and a genuine interest in children. Ability to interact successfully and respectfully with other volunteers, staff, and participants. Strong sense of integrity and professionalism. Ability to understand and willingness to abide by all program rules and procedures. Familiarity with MacIntosh based systems & programs; instructional methods appropriate for children aged 6-12; and educational software packages. Criminal and child abuse background clearances. Must be
able to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat, and reach. With appropriate training, must be able to administer approved passive physical restraint.

Support and Training:

YGAP is committed to the development of all staff members. Through workshops and seminars YGAP will try to address our staff needs and concerns. All staff will be expected to attend.
