The addiction counselor primary responsibility will be to provide supportive, therapeutic counseling and consultative services to the residents and staff at our Venango residence. The Counselor will be involved in the design, preparation, and sharing of new knowledge and skills with the residential program manager regarding practices. It is the primary responsibility of the Drug and Alcohol Counselor to provide supportive, therapeutic counseling and consultative services to the residents and staff of Project HOME. The Counselor should be involved in the design, preparation, and sharing of new knowledge and skills with the residential program managers.
Counseling Services
1. Facilitate weekly group counseling sessions, D&A and Mental Health, to each site as outlined above.
2. Provide individual counseling services upon referral by case manager.
3. Meet, on a formal and informal basis, with residents to provide education and encouragement.
4. Coordinate supportive services and referrals for residents by outside agencies as needed.
Residential Program Support 1. Work cooperatively with the Program Manager, ICM’s, and Case Manager to screen and interview all new applicants. 2. Assist the Program Manager to collect a new resident’s drug and alcohol history.
3. Assist the Program Manager and Case Manager in developing a service plan for all dually diagnosed residents.
4. Be available to meet with the residents, Case Managers and ICMs as needed for consults and ongoing care.
5. Perform both routine and random urine screens as necessary. Urines are collected by other staff as well as the Addictions Counselor.
6. Document case notes and group notes regularly in CARES.
7. Attend all programs’ case review meetings at least once a month
8. Attend monthly Program Manager’s meeting.
9. Be available to meet with the Program Manager and other treatment professionals as needed for consultations and ongoing care.
10. Be available via beeper/cell phone for crises and emergencies.
11. Assist the Program Manager and the residents in revising policies and procedures as necessary.
12. Attend House Meetings as needed.
13. Promote the understanding of mental health and D&A issues throughout the Project Home community (including residents, staff, and relevant external audiences).
Building community for the Drug and Alcohol Counselor means: 1. Receiving and responding to work tasks in a courteous and timely fashion.
2. Meet and greet visitors, residents, other staff, and co-workers in a polished and welcoming manner.
3. Intentionally maintaining open dialogue and verbal / written communication to eliminate chaos, confusion, and misunderstanding.
4. Strives to put others at ease and communicate in ways they can understand.
5. Develops and maintains smooth, cooperative working relationships with other.
6. Encourages open expression of ideas and opinions.
Qualified candidates must have:
A CAC certification AND a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college;
Minimum of 3-5 years experience working with dually diagnosed clients and persons in recovery;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft applications);
A valid driver’s license.
Position is part time – 20 hours per week.
