Panel Discussion at Swarthmore College: A Responsibility to Stop Genocide

SWARTHMORE, Pa. ? A group of five experts will speak at Swarthmore College about the responsibility to end genocide. The panel will take place on March 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Lang Performing Arts Center. This high level panel includes Dr. Zac Zsenga, current Rwandan Ambassador to Washington, Gregory H. Stanton, President of Genocide Watch, and Eric Reeves, Professor of English at Smith College and one of the most prominent figures in current Sudan research. They will each speak about what needs to be done in Darfur, Sudan and around the world. There will be time allotted for a question and answer session.

The panel is being organized by Swarthmore Sudan, an organization at the college working in support of the Genocide Intervention Fund. The Genocide Intervention Fund is an organization that collects donations for the African Union peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan.

In the past two years of genocide in Darfur, Sudan, 400,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million have been displaced. The African Union remains the only international organization willing to send troops into Darfur. Financial equipment and logistical shortages have currently kept it from being employed to its full potential.
