The Oxfam America CHANGE Initiative is now accepting applications for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Oxfam America is an international development agency dedicated to creating lasting solutions to global poverty, hunger, and social injustice through long-term partnerships with poor communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the U. S. We work to eliminate the root causes of social and economic inequities by challenging the structural barriers that foster conflict and human suffering and limit people from gaining the skills, resources, and power to become self-sufficient. Oxfam America also advocates for policy change, produces educational materials for the U.S. public, and actively engages them on the issues of poverty and social justice.

The CHANGE Initiative aims to develop capable and confident young leaders, who are informed and active voices for positive social change, and who inspire greater global awareness in others. Oxfam America is looking for a diverse group of undergraduate students, rising sophomores and juniors, committed to global social justice issues. The students will work on the issues of Fair Trade coffee, global hunger and trade, and be willing to organize campaigns and educational opportunities on their campuses and in their communities.

Selected students are required to participate in a training in Boston, July 26-Aug 1 organized and paid for by Oxfam America, and to communicate regularly with Oxfam staff about the work they are undertaking on their campus.

Applications are due on April 1st. We strongly encourage online applications at: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/youth/art3819.html

If you have any questions please call 1-800-77-OXFAM ext. 464 or email CHANGE@oxfamamerica.org.

PS- This year you can nominate students on your campus or others by going to the Tell a Friend section of our website at http://www.oxfamamerica.org/youth/art3797.html
Students will then be sent an email informing them of this opportunity.
