Oxfam America CHANGE Initiative Accepting Student Applications
Posted by on March 25, 2005
The Oxfam America CHANGE Initiative is now accepting student applications for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Oxfam America is dedicated to finding long-term solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice around the world. We do this by supporting local organizations that understand the specific needs of their communities. Eradicating poverty and hunger though involves a coherent effort on many fronts, from grassroots work in poor communities to bringing informed influence to bear on global policies. The Oxfam CHANGE Initiative engages college students and their campuses in this exciting and important work.
The CHANGE Initiative aims to develop capable and confident young leaders, who are informed and active agents for positive social change, and who inspire greater global awareness in others. Oxfam America is looking for a diverse group of undergraduate students, rising sophomores and juniors, committed to global social justice issues. Students must have an interest in issues such as the international impact of mining, Fair Trade Coffee, global hunger, and international trade, and be willing to work on their campuses and in their communities to create campaigns and educational opportunities.
CHANGE Leaders comprise an exceptional mix of established and emerging campus leaders from all over the US and the world. All students must attend a US college or university. Ideal candidates are passionate, motivated, globally aware, thoughtful, active citizens.
Selected students are required to participate in a training in Boston the last week of July, initiate a campaign on their campus and communicate regularly with Oxfam staff and each other about the work they are undertaking. All costs for travel and the training will be covered in full by Oxfam.
Applications are due on April 1st. We strongly encourage online applications at: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/change. If you have any questions please call 1-800-77-OXFAM ext. 464 or email [email protected].
PS – This year you can nominate students on your campus or others by going to the Tell a Friend section of our website at http://www.oxfamamerica.org/change. Students will be sent an email informing them of this opportunity at your request.
