Own It: Leadership for Women
Posted by University of Pennsylvania on March 27, 2017
In action since 2014, Own It is a series of events, summits and opportunities meant to motivate and connect young women everywhere. Our mission is to bridge the gap between female leaders and the millennials who admire them. The Philadelphia conference will be hosted at UPenn’s campus on Saturday, March 25th and stretch over the day. You can find a profile of our 53 speakers and panels here:

In addition to extending an invitation to High School girls in Philadelphia to attend the conference for free, we have designed one break out session called “How to Run For Office” specifically for those students who might be interested in civic engagement or a career in politics. It will be led by none other than Melissa Richmond, the Vice President of Running Start, a Washington, DC based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that trains young women to run for political office. Her mission is to rebalance the underrepresentation of women in office, and we are honoured by her offer to lead a personalised session for us.
Lunch will be provided at 1:15, the session in question runs from 1:45 – 2:30, and your students are welcome to stay for other panels. At the end of the conference, the students will receive a pamphlet detailing the names of organizations and leaders they can follow up with. We are also able to offer help for transport.
If this sounds like something your students would be interested in, please contact Siyona Ravi at [email protected] by Thursday with an estimate of number.
We look forward to seeing you at Own It!
