On Oct. 3, 2004, scholars from around the country will convene for two days at Penn State’s University Park campus, in State College, Pa., to share information about resources, network with colleagues and join in dialogue about promoting university outreach to the public.
The conference, “Outreach Scholarship 2004: Partners for Change,” will offer learning opportunities designed to broaden and deepen the understanding of community-university engagement.
Improving access to and coordination of community-university engagement programs, services and resources is the goal of the conference. Specifically, attendees will learn how to identify new resources and partnerships to support outreach programming, employ strategies to ensure program impact, identify innovative techniques for dissemination of faculty research and communicate the value of university engagement to decision makers and the public, among others.
The growing recognition of the need for university engagement was the impetus for Outreach Scholarship 2004 offered through a partnership established by Penn State, The University of Georgia, Ohio State and the University of WisconsinExtension. This year will mark the fifth annual such conference of the consortium.
