Outreach Coordinator, Greensgrow Farms
Posted by Greensgrow Farms on May 4, 2015
Greensgrow Farms has been a leader in the urban agriculture movement since 1998. Along with our urban crop production, Greensgrow is a trailblazer for urban sustainability, a champion of demonstrating how city dwellers can green their urban space, expanding access to fresh food, and innovating how to revitalize land once deemed useless. We operate as a social entrepreneurship based non-profit and run a year-round Nursery, Summer CSA, Winter CSA, and local Farm Stands serving a diverse constituency. Greensgrow also operates a community kitchen that serves as an entrepreneurial incubator for the local food maker industry, as well as the Low Income Food Education (LIFE) initiative comprised of mobile markets, culinary education, and a specific 3-month CSA program geared towards SNAP recipients.
About LIFE
Greensgrow’s LIFE initiative aims to break down the barriers – financial, logistical, and educational – that impede the physiological health of our communities. Part of this initiative is the SNAP Box program in which participating families receive a share of fresh vegetables and fruit each week, paid for with SNAP benefits. Simultaneous cooking and nutrition classes are offered to teach recipes and skills for preparing meals throughout the week. And Greensgrow’s trained staff are available to answer questions as needed as participants receive and utilize the fresh products. The pilot program was launched in 2010 and has grown steadily since. Greensgrow has established the infrastructure to bring fresh food to the city and is looking to institutionalize the community engagement side of the LIFE program to build stronger linkages to our constituent communities and partnering organizations.
To grow this vision, Greensgrow is seeking to hire an Outreach Coordinator to serve as the organizational liaison with individual and organizational partners in our access-related programming. He/She will serve as an integral part of the team creating materials, curriculum, programming, and strategies for growing participation in LIFE activities and developing new components of Greensgrow’s work in communities. Successful candidates will have at least 5 years experience in non-profit, social work or outreach communication with diverse groups, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of all Office Suite programs with emphasis on Word and Excel is essential, as is the ability to create informative presentations for both potential members and community health professionals. A passion for working with food in some capacity is strongly preferred.
