AJ Muste Foundation invites applications for Organizing Grants program

For 50 years, the AJ Muste Foundation in New York City has supported grassroots movements committed to advancing human rights, building equality, and dismantling systems of social, economic, and political oppression. The foundation funds efforts that challenge militarism, environmental injustice, and mass incarceration, and that work toward a more just and liberated world.

The foundation invites applications for its Organizing Grants program. Grants of up to $10,000 (with most grant awards around $5,000) will be awarded to newly founded and existing organizations that are engaged in activist organizing. The foundation prefers groups that don’t have much foundation funding or other traditional streams of income and will award funding for projects and to address general operations. The foundation seeks creative and bold ideas that have a specific goal. Grants will be awarded in support of projects and organizations dedicated to fighting for systemic change, rather than personal/individual support.

The organization awards applicants with 501(c)(3)s, groups with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, and organizations with a bank account in their name.

For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the AJ Muste Foundation website.

Deadline: October 20, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. ET
