What Works! Symposium Summary
The Symposium will provide an opportunity for in-depth examination of exemplary models of school initiatives that successfully create positive climates of respect and learning. These models demonstrate the value of policies, programs and practices that include character development as well as academic focus. Participants will identify lessons that can be learned from the models, and determine how to best promote replication throughout the nation and the world. Top experts in the field will share their views and recommendations. The Symposium will also provide an opportunity for leaders to better define measures of success and to develop strategies for broader advocacy for supportive laws, policies and programs.

Symposium Participants Recognized experts and other leaders in the fields of character education, social and emotional learning, and violence prevention; school superintendents; school principals; teachers; counselors; college of education deans; out-of-school program leaders and student leaders; Operation Respect affiliates and partners; leaders in business and health care; leaders in the arts and sports; members of Congress and congressional staff; state legislators; and community leaders.
