Online Workshop: Tips for Lesson Planning: Adult Numeracy Instruction – May 25

This workshop is part of the Office of Children and Families (OCF) Adult Education’s Spring professional development workshop series for adult educators, administrators, and volunteers.
Learn strategies for planning and executing math-based lessons that will help learners master numeracy. Perfect for ABE and HSE instructors!
Participants will:
- Be able to identify key components in numeracy lesson planning
- Be able to integrate the Key Instructional Shift of Rigor, which requires an equal intensity of conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency and application
- Engage in activities they can immediately put into practice with students.
About the Facilitator: Maribel Ojeda (she/her) currently works as an agency consultant for the Professional Learning Opportunities Project, Professional Development System, Division of Adult Education, PA Department of Education. She also works as an independent contractor, under the name MO Education Consultation, providing instructional coaching and workshops for adult education programs across Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Maribel completed her teacher certification at Drexel University and has a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership. She taught in Philadelphia public schools before moving into the field of adult basic education.
Ms. Ojeda’s areas of expertise include developing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for administrators, instructors and tutors of adult basic education, ESL and out-of-school youth programs. With a focus on instructional quality, Maribel supports instructors across Pennsylvania in developing Program Improvement and Professional Development Plans for Pennsylvania Department of Education funded programs under WIOA legislation. Maribel also supports individual agencies and In-House Professional Development Specialists in implementing and facilitating professional development. As an independent consultant Ms. Ojeda customizes her support for the client’s needs. Maribel helps agencies to identify data-based objectives and she facilitates the collection of data. She also assists PLC members in establishing benchmarks and analyzing evidence of change. Maribel’s work engages individuals and agencies in goal setting around sustainable change and capacity building.
