Online Tutor Training Facilitator(s), Mayor’s Commission on Literacy
Posted by Mayor's Commission on Literacy on March 23, 2015
The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy in Philadelphia seeks one or more facilitators to manage its online Basic, ESL and GED® tutor training programs. The completely online tutor trainings are each offered up to three times per annum, for a total of nine offerings. Online trainings are completely written curricula, each managed by an online facilitator. The Basic and ESL tutor trainings run for four (4) weeks each, and the GED® runs for three (3) weeks. An average of fifteen volunteers enrolls in each of the trainings. Applicants should specify if they are able to facilitate all of the tutor trainings in their applications.
The facilitator will log on at least twice daily during each offering, to observe activities, guide trainees who may need assistance in navigating or participating in the activities, and enter discussions only if the discussion has gone astray. In addition, the facilitator will interact with individuals or the cohort to stimulate progress, answer questions, and extend the learning. The Facilitator may also need to reach out to trainees who are lagging or lurking electronically or by phone to engage them in the program. The facilitator’s goal is retention of trainees and their achievement of the training goals.
This is a one-year independent contractor position, for all or part of the trainings. The LMS used by The Commission is Canvas by Instructure.
