One King Day, One King Book project highlights King’s contributions
The goal of One King Day, One King Book, a project of the Martin Luther King Day of Service, is to increase students’ understanding of Dr. King’s legacy and contributions, help them to realize how they can fulfill his dream and to set the stage for a deeper discussion about the civil rights movement.
This year, separate books have been selected for elementary and middle school reading levels, each of which connects to the key principles of Dr. King’s life and legacy. To learn more about the book selections, go here.
Students can participate by reading one of the books and submitting an essay or drawing in response to what they read. Students in grades 6 – 8 are also encouraged to create comics. Selected essays will be featured on the MLK Day of Service website and some participants will be selected to receive free tickets Philadelphia educational destinations, including the Please Touch Museum, National Liberty Museum, African American Museum, and others. Along with these prizes, EZComics.com will select one comic entry to be published on its website.
