One-Day Institute on Civic Prompts in the Major: Designs in Social Responsibility and the Public Good

November 15, 2019
Loyola University Chicago
In Cooperation with Loyola’s Center for Experiential Learning, Chicago, Illinois

Applications Due October 1, 2019

Looking to the department as the unit of change rather than to individual professors or general education courses, the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ Civic Prompts in the Major initiative focuses on how departments can scaffold opportunities across the major for students to engage with public questions; work with diverse others to address pressing local, national, or global issues; and prepare to enter their workplaces with a heightened sense of public responsibility.

This is the first of three regional one-day institutes AAC&U will be organizing in 2019–2020 thanks to the generosity of The Endeavor Foundation. The winter and spring institutes will be held on the West Coast and the East Coast, respectively.

Institute Details

We invite departmental teams of three or more to apply by October 1, 2019. Teams will be asked to describe what’s working well with their current design and how the department plans to enrich their design through participation in the institute. For examples of rich departmental designs in the major, see Civic Learning in the Major by Design and case studies.
