OIC of America Teen Pregnancy Prevention looking for partners
Posted by on October 24, 2010
OIC of America has been awarded the Teen Pregnancy Prevention grant through the Department of Health and Human Services. The search is on for partners (both community and faith-based) that have youth programs and can commit to hosting on-site educational workshops that ranges from 8-15 weeks (depending upon the age of the youth).
OICA will focus on middle school and high school youth because this target group will achieve greater success if they are provided with adequate information and guidance. OIC of America’s aim is to continue to impact the youth of Philadelphia with the necessary tools to navigate and resist the social pressures of a highly sexualized culture in a healthy, well informed way.
OICA Goals:
To provide a cost free service to youth ages 12 to 19 in public, private, charter and alternative school settings, as well as community and faith-based organizations throughout Philadelphia County.
– To reduce the percentage of youth engaging in premature or unsafe sexual activity.
– To be inclusive of all teen populations including those of the LGBTQ community and current/ expectant teen parents.
– To provide parental/guardian support to those who have youth in the program by facilitating and hosting parent meetings.
– To increase public awareness through various social marketing and community outreach efforts.
– To collaborate with community and faith-based organizations in support of their efforts to educate youth about the importance of living a sexually healthy lifestyle.
