Nutrition Education Associate, Weavers Way Community Programs

Job Description: The Nutrition Education Coordinator will deliver WWCP’s year-round budget-conscious cooking and nutrition education programs, namely to parents and families at an emergency housing facility. Responsibilities include writing lesson plans aligned with program goals and objectives; recipe development and costing; instructing adults in healthy cooking techniques; and delivering nutrition education initiatives, while reflecting the mission and philosophy of Weavers Way Community Programs.
Job Responsibilities:
• Lead healthy cooking and nutrition classes for residents of emergency housing facilities, including intergenerational lessons
• Provide leadership and opportunities for skill development (i.e. cooking, workforce development) to program participants who have “graduated” and return to participate as class assistants
• Develop/write curricula for, as well as deliver weekly lessons on, budget-conscious cooking methods, nutrition, and basic urban gardening
• Collect and submit data for monthly reports on program outcomes
• Work with Farm/Garden Manager to coordinate use of seasonal produce from the garden at the emergency housing facility and in lessons
• Maintain orderly site(s) for all visitors and maintain program supplies and food inventory
• Assist with events and other program activities as needed
• Attend appropriate community meetings; professionally represent WWCP and maintain a positive relationship with all community and program partners, including coordination of activities & classroom use with housing facility staff
Qualifications/Skills/Attributes:
• At least two years of relevant experience (with emphasis on stovetop cooking/cooking with limited resources)
• Experience with program facilitation, fostering a sense of community, and building trust
• Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including a sense of humor
• Must be open-minded and possess cultural competencies for diverse groups, including those experiencing homelessness; must maintain confidentiality at all times; has a high moral character
• Able to innovate on a given curriculum and be nimble and flexible in an often unpredictable environment
• Able to organize groups safely and productively; ability to be firm in upholding rules and maintaining boundaries
• Exceptional attention to detail and deadlines
• Able to work effectively independently, but possesses a work style that promotes collaboration & communication
• Training or knowledge of trauma-informed care is a plus
• ServSafe Certification is preferred but not required
Job Particulars: Part time / Hourly / Year-round
Compensation starts at $15/hour, dependent upon education and experience
