Nonprofits Are Keepers of Our Democracy and PANO Is Making It Official
Posted by PA Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) on May 26, 2026
PANO’s board officially voted to adopt a new public policy priority – one that reflects work our members have long been doing, and one that is more important than ever in today’s civic landscape:
Promote Civic Engagement of Nonprofits as Keepers of Our Democracy
Policies that protect the rights and responsibilities of nonprofits in civic engagement and nonpartisan activities, including but not limited to:
- Engagement with local, state, and federal representatives as field experts
- Movement building, including through social media
- Voter registration
- Candidate forums on issues critical to local communities
- Protecting the rule of law
- Training participants and community members in civic engagement and supporting grassroots organizations
We know nonprofits play a vital role in strengthening democracy and now we’re putting that commitment on the record.
