Nonprofits Are Keepers of Our Democracy and PANO Is Making It Official

PANO’s board officially voted to adopt a new public policy priority – one that reflects work our members have long been doing, and one that is more important than ever in today’s civic landscape:

Promote Civic Engagement of Nonprofits as Keepers of Our Democracy

Policies that protect the rights and responsibilities of nonprofits in civic engagement and nonpartisan activities, including but not limited to:

  • Engagement with local, state, and federal representatives as field experts
  • Movement building, including through social media
  • Voter registration
  • Candidate forums on issues critical to local communities
  • Protecting the rule of law
  • Training participants and community members in civic engagement and supporting grassroots organizations

We know nonprofits play a vital role in strengthening democracy and now we’re putting that commitment on the record.
