Measuring What Matters: Turning your mission into metrics
Running a nonprofit can seem like an endless sea of measuring. Between grant reporting requirements, requests from your board, and your own need to know, there are hundreds of data points that you must keep track of. But does measuring how many clients you have served or how much money you have raised really tell you whether or not you are meeting your mission? In this session, we will connect the dots between measurement and mission and present several case studies that explore how rethinking what you measure can have a dramatic impact on the efficacy of your organization.
Goals and Objectives:
* Learn how to evaluate metrics
* Understand how funders view your metrics
* Find out how to use metrics to support the mission of your organization
Checklist for Healthy IT Systems

Why Attend this Workshop?
Nonprofit organizations often suffer with low-quality, high-maintenance systems that sap both productivity and resources. The purpose of this presentation is to name and explain in general terms the concrete steps that nonprofits should take to improve their systems without greatly increasing costs, which will lead to better planning and decision-making. The presentation will also encourage nonprofits to improve their systems functionality, rather than simply maintain them. Computer systems used by nonprofits rarely get the planning, auditing, and steady improvement that they need. Taking simple, inexpensive steps often leads to major improvements, but few nonprofits know where to start. This presentation will detail and explain a checklist of concrete tasks nonprofits can undertake to improve their systems, as well as suggest how to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Goals and Objectives:
* Understand how to create a checklist
* Understand how to use the checklist
* Identify at least two things to start doing when you get back to work
* Identify one thing to stop doing
* Implement the multi-domain approach to IT system improvement
