Non-Partisan Concierge Service for Students Voting from Abroad

Posted by Center for U.S. Voters Abroad Turnout Project on September 24, 2024

The Center for U.S. Voters Abroad Turnout Project (CUVA Turnout Project) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to helping U.S. citizens living abroad vote. In the 2020 election, only 7.8% of Americans abroad successfully cast their ballots. To address this, our team was established in 2022 with a mission to increase voter participation among this group.

As part of our efforts, we’re providing study abroad offices and third-party study abroad providers with easy-to-share “voting from abroad” instructional resources for their students. With overseas voter registration deadlines fast approaching, we’re eager to partner with more schools to empower their study abroad students to make their voices heard in this critical election. We’re already partnering with major institutions such as UPenn, Michigan State, Drexel University, UNC Wilmington, and third-party providers like CET and ISEP.

The ask is simple, but the impact can be huge! Here’s what we’ve achieved with some of our current partners with just two email reminders to students:

  • UPenn: 51/147 students registered to vote (35%)
  • Drexel University: 22/120 students registered to vote (18%)
  • CET: 82/350 students registered to vote (23%)
  • Beloit College: 6/30 students registered to vote (20%)
  • ISEP: 208/727 students registered to vote (29%)
  • UNC Wilmington: 11/60 students registered to vote (18%)

If you’re interested in joining this important initiative or would like more information on how to share these resources with your students, please don’t hesitate to reach out to: tom@usvotersabroad.org.

We’re excited to collaborate and help students exercise their right to vote from abroad
