Celebrate Activists In Your Community!
Bread and Roses Community Fund would like to identify candidates for the 2005 Change, Not Charity award celebration, which will be presented at the Tribute to Change next spring. Created to honor significant contributions to social justice in the region, the Tribute provides a forum to tell the important story of activism in this community.

We’d like to hear from you by September 17. You may respond via mail, fax, or email. In addition to the name of the person or group you are recommending, please be sure to include the name of the award and comments to support your recommendation.

You may nominate individuals and organizations for any of the following:
? The Paul Robeson Social Justice Award – For an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to social change recently, or throughout his or her lifetime. The awardee must live in the Delaware Valley, and his or her contribution must have significantly benefited people in this area.
? Grantmaking for a Greater Philadelphia Award – For an outstanding contribution to social change philanthropy in the Delaware Valley area. The awardee can be an individual or organization.
? Community Empowerment Award – Given to activist organizations that have accomplished a great deal for change, not charity.
? Polly Brinley Award – Given to an individual whose efforts have been invaluable to a local progressive organization; a memorial to Polly Brinley’s work with local organizations and her lifetime commitment to peace and justice at home and abroad.

When thinking about possible nominees, ask yourself:
? Whose lifetime commitment to social and economic justice inspires? Who is supporting the development of new leaders; working across generations?
? What groups are employing innovative strategies and having an impact in the city? Regionally? Nationally? Who is using new ideas and technologies to support their organizing?
? Whose work is building coalitions across boundaries of race, class, age, or ability? Giving voice to new issues and communities?
? Who (traditional and non-traditional funders) is taking risks, using their financial and organizational resources to redistribute wealth and support and nurture the growth of local social justice organizations?
