The Next Steps AmeriCorps program is a youth leadership development initiative that partners college sophomores and juniors with first year college students, designed for Next Steps AmeriCorps members to serve as peer mentors to support students’ first-year experience through community service, mentorship, supportive workshops, and leadership development. Alongside peer mentoring first-year students, Next Steps AmeriCorps members will also be committed to better their own communities through an emphasis of community service.
Next Steps AmeriCorps members will:
Perform 300 hours of community service in one year which includes informal mentoring of two first-year students and all training and leadership development. It’s about a 10-hour per week commitment.
Who
For rising sophomores and juniors
Graduates of Philadelphia high schools
Demonstrate financial need
Participated in a pre-college program while in high school
Where
Temple University
La Salle University
Community College of Philadelphia
Kutztown University
Millersville University
Chestnut Hill College
When
Enrollment begins August 20, 2015 and ends August 19, 2016
