A national initiative to advance the long-term economic well-being of women through asset building.

With the 2003 Women and Assets Summit, the Asset Development Institute (ADI) and the National Center on Woman & Aging (NCWA) launched the Women and Asset Network. Currently the network links over 150 representatives from national, state and local organizations who want to work together to advance asset development policies and practices impacting women.

The principle outcomes of the Summit were a shared understanding of the importance of employing an asset perspective to:

Find a common concept and language in which to wrap diverse but related interests that:

Articulates a proper balance between personal and social responsibility
– Effectively links the concept and language to traditional anti-poverty work
– Uses language suitable to different settings, from policy and research to grassroots and popular venues.
– Advance a universal and inclusive agenda of economic security and opportunity for all households.

Engage a wide range of constituencies about the asset concept and the promise of asset-based policies.

Demonstrate how women are impacted by their asset building opportunities and choices throughout their lifetime, including how they prepare for old age.

Map out policy ideas, politically viable over the long-term, that link and address in a significant way, issues of economic security and opportunity for women.
