STUDENT WEB SITE LAUNCHED — WarOnHunger.org
The United Nations World Food Program invites students, teachers and community youth groups to log onto http://www.WarOnHunger.org, an interactive student web site launched today in a new UN campaign to end hunger.
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage high school and university students to take up the neglected challenge of global hunger — the number one killer in the world today, far worse than the toll of HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. The UN hunger agency will provide materials and guidance for students who want to build a network of advocacy and support for the millions who are still held back by hunger.
Announced today at UN headquarters by the campaign’s honorary spokesperson Lauren Bush, http://www.WarOnHunger.org makes it easy for students to link up in interactive forums, plan funding drives, information campaigns and public awareness activities to aid the world’s 800 million people — including 300 million children — who still fight hunger every day.
