Bridging a Digital Divide and Helping Alumni Be Financially Smart
Alumni Have A Global Guidance Counselor for Self Improvement in the Soul of Higher Ed Website
Philadelphia?February 19, 2003?The Soul of Higher Ed website at http://www.thesoulofhighered.net was released by the Global Alumni Presence Project. The digital resource fills a void in guidance counseling with the eyewitness accounts of lifelong learners in academic, corporate, faith, government and nonprofit places. Visitors can also go to the site to register for the Project?s Being Financially Smart Gatherings that begin on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at the INGDirect Caf? at 1636 Walnut Street.
Mark Barnes, the Project?s Chief Navigation Officer and Founder, says that ?in addition to sending the message that image is everything, this is an evolutionary step towards assisting higher education communities in making contact with alumni and vice versa.? The Project is a developing social purpose enterprise whose mission is to responsibly use information, technology and financial resources to spread unique knowledge of learning, philanthropy, mentoring and leadership among racially and culturally diverse alumni groups from the world of higher education.
Nicolette Daniels, Certified Public Accountant and lead presenter for the financial literacy seminars says, ?I am very excited about this series of Gatherings. Once the community understands the importance and can see the simplicity in performing certain periodic fiscal tasks, they will possess the necessary tools to add value to their bottom line.? The Being Financially Smart Gatherings? primary goal is to place alumni of color in better positions to make moral and financial investments in philanthropic missions of teaching, research and service.
